Royal College Red Cross

Founded in 1978, under the guidance of Mr. S.J. Maranthota, the Royal College Red Cross Society remains to this day as one of the most respected and important clubs of the College, providing a great service to the school and to the community. It is now a unit of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society.

Major Projects

  • 1978 – Assisting for the release campaign for the eastern province cyclone victims.
  • 1979 – Arranging the first eye donation campaign which was organized for the first time by a school.
  • 1979 – Organizing the first blood donation campaign.
  • Supplying first aid for every major event in Royal College.

We have proudly continued this legacy and held the 44st Annual Blood Donation Campaign on 2023. We are an important supplier to the National Blood Bank, providing them with more than 540 pints of blood, the largest quantity collected from any school in Sri Lanka as of 2023.

Our Vision

To provide everyone with the highest standard of first aid when required and to serve the community and beyond by conducting community service projects that are designed in line with fundamental principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement to improve health, safety and quality of life.

Our Mission

  • To provide basic first aid and health coverage for events within or outside the college premises when required.
  • To continue the Blood Donation Campaign annually, in a successful way.
  • To conduct projects in aid of the community within and outside the college premises adhering to the fundamental principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality.
